根據馬拉松游泳選手Diana Nyad的自傳拍成。以她如何在64歲時創下53小時從古巴游到佛羅里達州共177公里的紀錄為主軸，並回顧她14歲起被知名游泳教練性侵多年，以及28歲時首次挑戰這段海泳卻敗北的回憶。
整個故事當然是激勵人心到不行—永不放棄，不管幾歲都可以開始追夢。關於Nyad的不屈不撓當然值得讚嘆，但更覺得了不起的是可以忍受這種自以為是且不離不棄的好友Bonnie。成功的人，不管男女，背後一定有至少一雙強而有力的臂膀護著、撐著。
飾演Diana Nyad的Annette Bening與飾演Nyad教練好友Bonnie的Jodie Foster，和事件發生時的劇中人物的年紀剛好相符，這樣的選角使得敘事畫面更加有說服力。另外的心得非常個人，因為長年游泳的緣故，超喜歡看Annette Bening的水下英姿—長長伸展的手臂，不費力的划水、輕盈的踢腿…簡直像是在沒有阻力的介質中滑行。

Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean—
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down—
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?
