男子星野一彥因為不明原因，欠了一筆怎樣都還不了的債，被迫要搭上「那輛巴士」，去到不知名的地方，面對難以名狀的未來。

臨行之前，他懇求能在成行前向五位女友一一告別。大人物居然同意他的請求，派個身高、噸位都180的女子，繭美，跟隨，一一拜訪五位女子。所以五個短篇就是星野和五個個性、職業迥異的女子的告別。從對話的過程，知道他們如何相識，如何相處，又，如何面對別離。

乍看之下，星野是個十足十的花花公子，同時五劈卻沒有一點羞愧感。但漸漸讀下去，就發現這人的性格有個很麻煩的弱點/強項，就是忍不住要幫助人。眼前的女子有困難時，其他的事情就拋掉了，例如男女交往的「忠誠」。簡單的說，星野很忠誠，只是無法只對單一的人忠心耿耿就是。

說實在，看得時候只想著，這真是本無厘頭的殺時間小說。雖沒有討厭看不下去，畢竟是從圖書館借來的全新的書，念在是第一個讀者的份上，就算有厭惡感，也一下子就雲過風清。本想就這樣隨便看完，隨便記點心得就算，沒想到，看到書末筆名臥斧所寫的解說後，才「啊！」的叫出來，原來，還頗有深意哪！

這書是用唐朝詩人的詩為底 (如下)，闡述的是最後的那一句詩──人生足別離──人生因離別而豐足起來。

於是，書中的男主角星野一彥，就一再重複了告別，讓五個女子的生命，不會因為男友的「不告而別」而缺憾，而是接受了離別，而重新了自己的旅程。

真的是想得這麼深的故事嗎？

書名來自一首有名的爵士歌曲，上網找了歌詞，貼上來。
